NOTICES:

HOLIDAY TRASH/RECYCLING INFORMATION
Town offices are closed on Monday, January 16 for Martin Luther Holiday and Monday, February 20 for President's Day.  PLEASE NOTE THAT CURBSIDE TRASH & RECYCLING SERVICES ARE OPERATING ON THEIR NORMAL SCHEDULE FOR BOTH WEEKS.  For a complete list of 2012 holidays that will affect the collection schedule, please refer to Barrels at the Curb.

CHRISTMAS TREES
Town crews will be picking up Christmas trees from curbside through the month of January.

ELECTRONICS RECYCLING
.....is now FREE for all Granby residents!  And be sure to check out "Electronics Recycling" on this website.  The list of accepted items includes a lot of new items!

BOOK RECYCLING
The Transfer Station has a container where residents can bring new or gently-used books (hard and soft cover), CDs, DVDs, records and audio books for recycling.  Please be sure to save your best  used books to donate to the Library book sales.  Check with the Library for exact dates.

RECYCLING PLASTICS #1-#7
Granby residents may now include #1-#7 plastics in our curbside single stream recycling program!  This means that all our yogurt, cottage cheese, ketchup containers can be included.  The CRRA (Connecticut Resources Recovery Authority) has asked that we make sure all containers are rinsed clean, as usual.  They also will not accept black plastics or Styrofoam.

COMPOSTERS
The Town of Granby has "Garden Gourmet" compost bins for sale.  We are subsidizing them for Granby residents only, for the low, low price of $35 (tax included)!!  Stop by Public Works any weekday between 7:30 and 3:30 and pick one up.

SERVICE FOR BULKY ITEMS
Paine's Inc. provides curbside pick up of bulky household items by appointment only and for a fee.  Please call Paine's at 844-3000 for more information.

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTIONS
The 2011 collections have ended for the season.  Please check back in March 2012 for the Spring schedule.

THINK ABOUT IT...

Every resident of Granby throws away nearly 2 pounds of trash every day. And although these numbers are on the decline, it is clear we need to continue to reduce the amount of trash we generate. Waste reduction can easily become second nature to all of us, if we adopt a few very simple habits.

Keep canvas bags in your car and use it for shopping rather than using bags from the store.

Buy in bulk when you can. And avoid purchasing disposable items.

Give paint, old clothing, furniture and appliances to charities or consignment shops. Or have a tag sale.

Buy recyclable containers and items with little or no packaging. And buy recycled products.

Compost! Compost! Compost!
