Local Fund Raising begins for Cossitt Renovations
Construction is slated to begin April 1 on major renovations to Cossitt Library. The project includes a redesigned entry to the lower level children's library, the placement of steel beams to reinforce the main floor, and the replacement of the first floor ceiling with a period appropriate coffered ceiling and new lighting. The town of Granby is the recipient of a $125,000 grant from The Hartford Foundation for Publc Giving which will fund the majority of the project. Granby Department of Public Works staff will provide in-kind services such as excavation and demolition. The grant award includes an expectation that funds will be raised within the local community to support the project.
The Granby Library Board is beginning to solicit contributions to raise $15,000 from local businesses, organizations and residents to demonstrate Granby community support for this valuable town asset. The Granby Library Assoication has generously offered a matching grant in which the first $2,500 of individual contributions will be matched by the GLA. The Friends of Cossitt library has also committed $1,500 to this project. In addition, The Friends of Granby Public Library has contributed the proceeds from their special March tabletop used book sale.
