In true Connecticut Explored style, we will take a look at some of the less-well-known aspects of the war including our state's naval contribuitions (from Lincoln's appointing Glastonbury's Gideon Welles as secretary of the navy to our shipbuilding might), the participation of African Americans in the fight to end slavery at home and on the battlefield, and women's efforts to supply the troops and maintain stability on the home front.
