TOWN OF GRANBY
        AGRICULTURAL COMMISSION
MINUTES
July 9, 2009

PRESENT:        Michelle Neidermeyer, Chairman; Jason Bogli, Stanley Hayes, Stephen Hayes

ABSENT: Don Butler, Ann Wilhelm

Chairman Neidermeyer confirmed a quorum and called the meeting to order at 8:05 p.m.

VOTE ON APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF JUNE 11, 2009:

ON A MOTION by Stephen Hayes, seconded by Stanley Hayes the Commission voted (4-0-0) to approve the minutes of June 11, 2009 as presented.

GRANBY AG WEBSITE:

Status:

Mr. Stephen Hayes is presently working on the website.  There are a few more sections to add, i.e. events and links.  Commission members will look at the site at home and let Mr. Hayes know if any corrections are needed.

Participation:

The farms that are presently listed on the website are those that responded to the survey.  The next step is to get additional farms on the site.  As Ms. Niedermeyer gets additional information, she’ll send it to Mr. Hayes.

Get the Word Out:

  • A notice will be put in the Drummer to notify people of the website.  Also, if Commission members know of an appropriate website, they will inquire if a link could be added for the Ag Website.
  • Mr. Bogli will donate promotional postcards informing individuals of the website.  Ms. Niedermeyer will assist him with the design.
FALL FESTIVAL – HOLCOMB FARM:

  • The tentative date of the festival is October 17th and Holcomb Farm would like other farms to participate.  Ms. Neidermeyer will send out an e-mail to inform them of the date.
  • It will be a longer event this year.  In an attempt to increase the attendance, advertising will be increased and they are looking at the possibility of having a couple of bands.
HOLCOMB FARM MOVIE NIGHT:

Holcomb Farm is looking at the possibility of holding a movie night in August.  The Agricultural Commission will work with other farms to support the event.   Ms. Neidermeyer has reviewed some movies and would like to show one that educates people on the impact of buying locally.  The movie would be shown outside on the barn and people would bring lawn chairs and picnics.  There will also be a speaker present.

GRANBY AG MAP:

The map is on the website.  Mr. Stephen Hayes will make it two pages with the index on one side and the map on the other.  Individuals can print it off the website.

LIBRARY EXHIBIT – SPRING 2010:

The library has contacted the Commission regarding having an exhibit at the library next spring.  Commission members should think what they would like to put in the display case.

OTHER ITEMS OF INTEREST:

  • Ms. Neidermeyer met with the Town Manager yesterday regarding the Commission.  She needs to submit a letter to him regarding the cost of the website.   Other items that were discussed were the use of Roberts Rules during commission meetings, developing a standard agenda and posting the results of the Agricultural Survey on the Town Website.
  • Dan Ivers of The Granby News would like to write an article about the survey.  Ms. Neidermeyer will send him the results.
ADJOURNMENT

ON A MOTION by Stephen Hayes, seconded by Stanley Hayes, the meeting was adjourned at 9:26 p.m.

The next meeting will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2009 at 8:00 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Kathy Kane
