AGRICULTURAL COMMISSION
MINUTES
September 10, 2009
PRESENT: Michelle Neidermeyer, Chairman; Stanley Hayes; Stephen Hayes
ABSENT: Jason Bogli, Don Butler, Ann Wilhelm

As there was not a quorum, Chairman Neidermeyer cancelled the meeting.
Notes:
- Michelle gave an update on Bushy Hill Orchard. The Town and the State have an agreement with the Laws to buy the development rights and try to sell the land to a farmer. The church is interested in buying the property for use as a cemetery.
- Holcomb Farm is having a fall festival on Monday, October 12th and combining it with McLean Day.
The famer’s market held at Holcomb Farm was successful this year. Over the winter, the Commission will discuss whether or not to continue this next year. Because Holcomb Farm is out of the way, holding the farmer’s market at a different location might work better, i.e. near the Center of town from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. when people are coming home from work.
The Commission needs at least two new members. It would be nice to have one person who is interested in agriculture but not necessarily involved in it.
Thursday evening appears to be a difficult time to hold the Commission Meeting. Michele would like to schedule the meeting for a different time next year.
Agvocate Plan: Michele had spoken to a woman from Brooklyn, CT who is working on a one-year grant to promote agriculture. One of their goals is establish an Agricultural Commission in all towns. Michele distributed a copy of the group’s goals for the commission to look at.
The next meeting will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2009 at 7:00 p.m.
