GRANBY SAMPLER:

  • Ms. Niedermeyer stated she received an e-mail from the funder stating they received a lot of applications for the grant.
FARM FORUM:

  • The Farm Forum will be held in the Commons at the high school on February 10th with a snow date of February 11th.
  • Flyers will be dropped off at various farms, the library, the health food store and the YMCA.  People can sign up at the event as well.
  • There was a discussion regarding the invitation list and who will contact people.
  • Various groups (i.e. Land Trust, Holcomb Farm, etc.) will be asked to send the flyer to their distribution lists.
  • The Granby News has been contacted and they will add the forum to their events column.
  • Ms. Niedermeyer will write an article for The Drummer.
  • Ms. Niedermeyer will coordinate refreshments, coffee, etc.
WILD & SCENIC RIVERS ACT:

  • Sally Reiger, a member of the Lower Farmington River/Salmon Brook Wild & Scenic Study committee, came before the Commission to ask for their support in the groups’ quest to have this section of the River be federally designated as “wild and scenic”.   Ms. Reiger distributed copies of the groups Progress Report dated December 2009 and copies of the Draft Management Goals & Priorities.  As there was not a quorum present, a vote could not be taken.  The Commission will look into this further and get back to Ms. Reiger by the end of February.

100-MILE DIET:

  • Ms. Niedermeyer and Ms. Bogli met to discuss the 100-mile diet and came up with a proposal.  There would be three levels of participation so as to not make it too difficult.  They will ask other Towns if they would like to participate.  If so, there will be a representative from each town and they would finalize the rules.
NEW BUSINESS:

  • Ms. Niedermeyer received a letter from Bill Smith regarding information from the American Farmland Trust.  She will send this information to the Commission members via e-mail.
  • Mr. Smith also inquired if the Commission needs any money as the Town will soon begin looking at the budget for next year.  Ms. Niedermeyer will request some money for the Commission to help offset costs for the printing of the farm maps, posters, etc.
NEXT MEETING:

The Farm Forum will be held during the next regular meeting time and will be considered a special meeting.  The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at 7:00 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Kathy Kane
