Agriculture Commission Minutes 05/12/2010
TOWN OF GRANBY
AGRICULTURAL COMMISSION MEETING
MINUTES
May 12, 2010

PRESENT:        Michelle Niedermeyer, Chairman; Kate Bogli, Stanley Hayes, Stephen Hayes, Laini Neumann

GUESTS: Matt Garrett, Erin Pirro, Jonathan Pirro

Ms. Niedermeyer confirmed a quorum and began the meeting at 8:00 p.m.

APPROVE MINUTES

ON A MOTION BY Kate Bogli, seconded by Stephen Hayes, the minutes of April 14, 2010 were approved as written.

UPDATE ON WEBSITE:

None

UPDATE ON GRANBY SAMPLER:

Ms. Niedermeyer reported that the baskets are almost finalized and from the newspaper article alone, six individuals have sent e-mails stating they are interested in participating.

UPDATE ON FARM MAP:

There are presently 23 people on the map and Ms. Niedermeyer still has a few adjustments to make.

USE OF TOWN LAND FOR AGRICULTURE:

The Commission reviewed the draft of “Guidelines for Agricultural Land Use and Agricultural Leases”.   Throughout the document, the word “guidelines” will be changed to “regulations”.  It was decided to keep the document simple and not over-regulate so it doesn’t turn people away.   Ms. Neumann will make the suggested changes and distribute it to members so the Commission can vote on it at the next meeting.

LIBRARY DISPLAY

Ann Wihelm completed the display at the library and it came out very well.

DRUMMER COLUMN

Information for the Drummer article should be sent to Ms. Bogli via e-mail by Friday.

COORDINATION WITH HOLCOMB FARM FOR 2010:

  • The Spring Festival will be held on June 5th.  Vendors are needed to participate.  Ms. Niedermeyer will send out information to farmers.
  • The Commission will co-sponsor the film festival again this year.  Last year it was held every Thursday in August.  Ms. Niedermeyer reported they were looking at starting it in mid-July this year.   The Commission members felt that from a vendors standpoint, six weeks is a long time.  The group also felt there should be an alternate plan in case of rain.
NEW BUSINESS:

None

OLD BUSINESS:

  • Ms. Bogli felt things are coming up quickly (such as the film festival and Granby Sampler) and we need to get notices out and work on communication.
  • Ms. Neumann inquired about the status of the facebook page.   Ms. Niedermeyer will discuss this with the Town Manager.
PUBLIC COMMENT:

None

ADJOURNMENT:

ON A MOTION BY Laini Neumann, seconded by Kate Bogli, the Commission voted (5-0-0) to adjourn the meeting at 9:55 p.m.

The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at 8:00 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Kathy Kane
