APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF 12/8/08
The minutes of 12/8/08 were reviewed. ON A MOTION by Mary Keating, seconded by George Bronsord, the minutes of 12/8/08 were approved as written.
TREASURER’S REPORT
- General Fund: Ms. Kielbasa reported that we’re halfway through the fiscal year and we will be okay with what we’ve projected. We may be a little short in regard to paper supplies due to the increased cost of paper products.
- Staff Training: Ms. Kielbasa and Ms. Yost will be attending the NCOA Conference in March. The Hartford Foundation grant pays for some of Ms. Yost’s cost and Social Services pays for Ms. Kielbasa’s.
VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH:
Ms. Yost reported that the adults who participated in the intergenerational program (Adventures in Living) will be the volunteers of the month for December. They are Judy and Ames Swartsfager, Bob Simmons, Suzy Lamenzo, Marion Stevenson and Chris DeGray.
ACTIVITIES COMMITTEE REPORT
- Sandy Yost, Program Coordinator
- The Women’s Breakfast was rescheduled to this week due to last week’s snowstorm.
- The trip to the Collinsville Historical Museum was postponed due to snow. It will be held in March.
- For the winter there are more in-house programs scheduled: Neil Kraner and Bank of America will present “Clean Slate for 2009”, the VNA will do a foot care awareness event and Sue Eisenberg will do a presentation on keeping the winter blues away.
- Bruce Sullivan, Senior Club Treasurer
- Mr. Sullivan reported that the Senior Club has 21 paid members to date.
- The Senior Club raised 23% of the cost for the Senior Van.
- The Senior Club is also discussing holding a St. Patrick’s Day dinner.
DIRECTOR’S REPORT
- Ms. Yost wrote a grant to the Granby Education Foundation. It was approved for $1,200 and will pay for the instructors for the Art is Ageless program.
- The Town budgets were due 12/15. The Town Manager asked for budgets based on needs but to be aware that they may not be funded. Ms. Kielbasa stated the overall budget was submitted without a lot of change and it will be very tight next year.
TRANSPORTATION REPORT
- The contract for the new van has not come in yet. Once it does, we have 90 days to purchase the van.
- Mr. Sullivan requested a clock be purchased for the van.
NEW BUSINESS
- Incy announced that as of January 1st, we now have a Medicaid Hospice benefit in Connecticut. A payment mechanism and regulations need to be passed by the State so an operation manual probably won’t be available until May or June.
Ms. Yost is looking into a presentation on writing memoirs. If anyone has any recommendations regarding individuals who are knowledgeable on this, please let her know.
Ms. Kielbasa reported that there have been some concerns regarding the doctor who provides the skin screening service. He is a plastic surgeon and not a dermatologist. As a practice, the Center does not recommend professionals to the members and allows them the opportunity to hear from a variety of experts in a specific field. The Commission members agreed this is an important screening to have and a Certified dermatologist should be providing the service. In keeping with current practice, future screenings will be offered through additional physicians.
