TOWN OF GRANBY

CONSERVATION COMMISSION
MINUTES

March 4, 2010

PRESENT: Mike Lengvarsky, Charles Katan, Shelley Reuben, Carolyn Flint, Susan Dwyer, and Neil Hornish

Joe Zafian arrived at the meeting at 8:06pm

Chairman Lengvarsky called the meeting to order and confirmed a quorum at 7:35pm

MINUTES:

The minutes from the February 18, 2010 meeting were read.

The section of the minutes titled “Community Resource Inventory (CRI)” should be titled “Natural Resource Inventory (NRI)”.

Mr. Hornish’s name should be removed from the “Present” listing, as he was not in attendance at the meeting. Since Mr. Hornish was not at the meeting, the vote to adjourn the meeting should be changed to 5-0-0.

ON A MOTION by Ms. Flint, seconded by Ms. Reuben, the minutes were approved as amended on a 5-0-1 vote. Mr. Hornish abstained from voting as he was not at the February 18, 2010 meeting.

NATURAL RESOURCE INVENTORY (NRI):

Chairman Lengvarsky passed out the outline progress tracking sheet for the NRI. Mr. Hornish thinks the Commission can start on the introduction of the document, but cannot begin the POCD and Recommendation sections until the individual sections are drafted. Ms. Reuben noted that the subject of aquifers should be listed in the outline, and Ms. Dwyer noted that wildlife corridors should be added too.

Mr. Hornish and Ms. Flint have submitted the rough drafts of their sections, and Mr. Hornish is planning on adding Mr. Fran Armentano’s open space map. Chairman Lengvarsky will try to have his section prepared for the March 18, 2010 meeting. Ms. Reuben volunteered to have one of her sections ready for the April 1, 2010 meeting, and Mr. Katan will prepare his section on wetlands for the April 1, 2010 meeting as well.

Ms. Reuben is giving Mr. Zafian the topic of aquifers to cover in the NRI.

20% BY 2010 CAMPAIGN:

Chairman Lengvarsky met with First Selectman John Adams in regards to creating an energy task force. First Selectman Adams asked that the Conservation Commission draft a mission statement and specific goals/objectives the task force would complete.

Ms. Reuben, with the assistance of Mr. Hornish, will draft a mission statement and goals and will present them to the Commission at the March 18, 2010 meeting.

WILD AND SCENIC DESIGNATION:

Ms. Flint announced that Granby has passed the endorsement.

RAIN-BARREL EVENT:

Chairman Lengvarsky contacted Aimee Petras of the Farmington River Watershed Association, who informed him Mr. Fran Armentano, Director of Community Development, selected the date of June 12, 2010 at 10am at the Town Hall parking lot for this year’s rain-barrel event.

NEW BUSINESS:

No new business.

ON A MOTION by Ms. Reuben, seconded by Mr. Hornish, the Commission voted (7-0-0) to adjourn the meeting at 8:14pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Emily Leveille
Recording Secretary
