Conservation Commission Minutes 04-01-2010
TOWN OF GRANBY

CONSERVATION COMMISSION
MINUTES

April 1, 2010

PRESENT: Mike Lengvarsky, Charles Katan, Neil Hornish, Susan Dwyer, Joe Zafian, Carolyn Flint, and Shelley Reuben

Chairman Lengvarsky called the meeting to order and confirmed a quorum at 7:40pm

MINUTES:

The minutes from the March 18, 2010 meeting were read.

ON A MOTION by Mr. Hornish, seconded by Ms. Reuben, the minutes were approved on a 5-0-2 vote. Mr. Katan and Ms. Dwyer abstained as they were not present for the March 18, 2010 meeting.

CARL CRANE PROPERTY:

Chairman Lengvarsky asked the Commissioners to consider endorsing the Granby Land Trust in the purchase of the Carl Crane property located at 138R Old Messenger Road. The preservation of the Crane property will aid in fulfilling many of the goals and recommendations of the Town’s Plan of Conservation and Development, and will provide a substantial benefit to all residents of the Town and the State of Connecticut, while assuring the protection of a pristine area for future generations.

Chairman Lengvarsky drafted an endorsement for the Commission’s review. Some discussion occurred over the specifics of the property including size, purchase price, and the like. All the Commissioners were behind the idea of the Land Trust purchasing the property because it creates a large green belt in Town.

ON A MOTION by Mr. Zafian, seconded by Ms. Flint, the letter was endorsed by the Commission on a 7-0-0 vote.

ENERGY TASK FORCE:

The Commission once again reviewed the draft mission statement and goals and objectives created by Ms. Reuben. Much discussion took place to refine the statement, goals, and objectives. Ms. Reuben will make the discussed changes, and then the Commission will submit their draft to First Selectman John Adams.

NATURAL RESOURCE INVENTORY (NRI):

Ms. Reuben will present her section on forestry at the next meeting on April 15, 2010.

RAIN BARREL EVENT:

Chairman Lengvarsky has contacted Aimee Petras in regards to getting posters for the event for the Commissioners to post around Granby.

June 12, 2010 has also been chosen as the date for this year’s Celebrate Granby event. Now that the date is set, the Commission can move forward with getting a table at Celebrate Granby.

NEW BUSINESS:

No new business.

ON A MOTION by Ms. Flint, seconded by Ms. Reuben, the Commission voted (7-0-0) to adjourn the meeting at 8:45pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Emily Leveille
Recording Secretary
