Conservation Commission Minutes 06/17/2010
TOWN OF GRANBY
CONSERVATION COMMISSION
MINUTES
June 17, 2010

PRESENT: Mike Lengvarsky, Neil Hornish, Shelley Reuben, and Carolyn Flint

Also present was First Selectman John Adams.

Chairman Lengvarsky called the meeting to order and confirmed a quorum at 7:31pm

MINUTES:

The minutes from the June 3, 2010 meeting were read.

ON A MOTION by Mr. Hornish, seconded by Ms. Flint, the minutes were approved on a 3-0-1 vote. Ms. Reuben abstained from voting since she was not at the June 3, 2010 meeting.

NATURAL RESOURCE INVENTORY (NRI):

Chairman Lengvarsky asked the Commission to take time to review the rough draft of the NRI and to formulate thoughts for the next meeting on how to bend and mold the document.

Mr. Hornish will begin editing the draft NRI.

 CLEAN ENERGY TASK FORCE:

First Selectman Adams appreciated the work the Commission put into crafting the mission statement and goals/objectives document for the proposed Clean Energy Task Force. He did suggest that the Commission decide who the target audience for these documents should be, as well as add a bit more information on what the Clean Energy Campaign is and how it will benefit Granby and its residents.

Ms. Reuben felt it would be helpful to have as much support from the Town as possible. First Selectman Adams and the Commission both felt the Board of Selectman, Board of Education, and their student representatives could be active participants in the program.

The Commission is planning on presenting the task force goals/objectives and mission statement to the Board of Selectman at their second meeting in September. Until then, Ms. Reuben and the rest of the Commission will continue to re-work the two documents.

RAIN BARREL EVENT:

So far, no results have been reported to the Commission on the success of the event. Ms. Reuben will contact Aimee Petras to get the total sales information.

CHAIRMAN VACANCY:

The Commission discussed the possibility of having a chairman and vice chairman for the Commission. Mr. Hornish commented that the roles would work well together and would be a nice fit.

Chairman Lengvarsky submitted his letter of resignation from the chairman position to the Commission, effective immediately.  Mr. Lengvarsky will continue to hold his position as a member of the Conservation Commission.

Mr. Hornish then submitted his letter of resignation from the vice chairman position to the Commission, effective immediately.

Both these letters of resignation are attached to these minutes.

ON A MOTION by Ms. Reuben, seconded by Ms. Flint, it was approved on a 4-0-0 vote to elect Mr. Hornish as the Commission chairman, and Ms. Reuben as the Commission vice chairman, effective immediately.

Ms. Flint thanked Mr. Lengvarsky for his outstanding leadership as chairman, and for moving the Commission forward to accomplish so much. His work on the 10,000 Acres Forum was much appreciated.

NEW BUSINESS:

None.

ON A MOTION by Ms. Flint, seconded by Mr. Lengvarsky, the Commission voted (4-0-0) to adjourn the meeting at 8:35pm.

Respectfully submitted,
