Conservation Commission Minutes 08-05-2010
TOWN OF GRANBY

CONSERVATION COMMISSION
MINUTES

August 5, 2010

PRESENT: Neil Hornish, Shelley Reuben, Mike Lengvarsky, and Carolyn Flint

Mr. Katan arrived late.

Chairman Hornish called the meeting to order and confirmed a quorum at 7:35pm

MINUTES:

The minutes from the July 15, 2010 meeting were read.

ON A MOTION by Ms. Reuben, seconded by Mr. Lengvarsky, the minutes were approved on a 4-0-1 vote. Mr. Katan was not in attendance at the time the minutes were voted on.

NATURAL RESOURCE INVENTORY (NRI):

Mr. Zafian was not in attendance, so his piece of the NRI was not available to the Commissioners.

CLEAN ENERGY TASK FORCE:

Ms. Reuben created bullet points for First Selectman Adams to use at the first Board of Selectman meeting in September. The purpose of these bullet points was for First Selectman Adams to give background information on the 20% by 2010 Campaign and to set the stage for the Clean Energy Task Force proposal to the Board.

Mr. Lengvarsky felt it is necessary to remind the Board members that they had already committed to and endorsed the 20% by 2010 Campaign back in November of 2007. Ms. Reuben will add the letter of endorsement and minutes from that Board of Selectman meeting to the informational packets which will be submitted to the Board members.

Ms. Reuben will also begin to fill out the EPA Community Challenge and use the application as an example of what the Task Force could be become involved in.

Mr. Lengvarsky created a diagram with the Commission which highlights the benefits of the 20% by 2010 Campaign. Ms. Reuben will re-create the diagram and add it to the informational packet as well. She will attempt to get the finalized packets to First Selectman Adams by August 20, 2010.

NEW BUSINESS:

Mr. Katan announced that he has decided to resign from the Conservation Commission. He commented that he will miss being on the Commission as it was the first Commission he joined when he moved to Granby.

The Commission thanked Mr, Katan for all of his hard work and wished him the best of luck.

Mr. Lengvarsky wished him special thanks for Mr. Katan’s help during his chairmanship over the past three years.

ON A MOTION by Mr. Lengvarsky, seconded by Ms. Flint, the Commission voted (5-0-0) to adjourn the meeting at 8:57pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Emily Leveille
Recording Secretary
