CONSERVATION COMMISSION
MINUTES
October 7, 2010
PRESENT: Shelley Rueben, Carolyn Flint, and Mike Lengvarsky
Also present was Anna Sogliuzzo.
Vice-Chairman Rueben could not confirm a quorum. Vice-Chairman Reuben requests that in the future if a Commissioner knows he/she will be unable to attend a meeting to notify the Commission prior to the meeting.
CLEAN ENERGY TASK FORCE:
Vice-Chairman Reuben reported that Town Manager Bill Smith is ready to sign-off on the EPA Community Challenge. Once the Town has committed to the Challenge, the Task Force will begin working on creating Public Service Announcements (PSAs) to be aired on GCTV. Perhaps Granby Memorial High School students would be interested in creating the PSAs.
The Task Force plans to be a presence at community events, including the Fall Farm Fun Festival at Holcomb Farm on October 11, 2010 from 10AM to 5PM.
Vice-Chairman Reuben noted that the Task Force has a handful of members right now; however, more are needed. She will place an article in “The Granby Drummer” and on the Town website asking for interested persons to volunteer and sign up for positions in the Task Force that have yet to be filled.
NATURAL RESOURCE INVENTORY:
Vice-Chairman Reuben is working on the agriculture section of the NRI. The other sections which need to be completed are:
- Aquifers
- Wildlife corridors/threatened and endangered species
- Vernal pools
- Inland/wetlands
Ms. Flint wants to see the NRI be completed as it is an important resource to the Town. Vice-Chairman Reuben suggested the Commission draft a letter asking assistance from experts to review the sections which are completed.
