TOWN OF GRANBY
CONSERVATION COMMISSION
MINUTES
October 21, 2010
PRESENT: Neil Hornish, Shelley Reuben, Carolyn Flint, and Mike Lengvarsky
Also present was Anna Sogliuzzo.
The minutes from the September 16, 2010 meeting were read. Ms. Reuben commented that her name was spelled wrong in the “Present” section of the minutes.
ON A MOTION by Ms. Flint, seconded by Ms. Reuben the September 16, 2010 minutes were approved as amended on a 3-0-1 vote. Mr. Lengvarsky abstained from voting as he was not present at that meeting.
CLEAN ENERGY TASK FORCE:
Vice-Chairman Reuben announced that Granby is now a member of the EPA New England Community Energy Challenge and that Granby is already a Clean Energy Community as over 100 residents/businesses have signed-up.
Vice-Chairman Reuben also told the Commissioners that some changes to the qualification criteria have been made:
- we only need 200 sign-ups to get a 200 KW solar array installed
- the Community Challenge will also pay half the cost if the Town decides to upgrade to the 400KW system (up to $8,000)
- we can use the $4,000 in grant money as incentives to the schools to help get more sign-ups.
Ms. Pat Chieski from the Town Manager’s office has been working with Vice-Chairman Reuben to create a Clean Energy Task Force page to be added to the Town Website.
NATURAL RESOURCE INVENTORY:
Chairman Hornish will continue to edit and revise the draft copy of the Natural Resource Inventory. Ms. Dwyer commented at a previous meeting that she should have her section on threatened and endangered species ready by late fall. No word from Mr. Zafian on when his section will be completed.
NEW BUSINESS:
Vice-Chairman Reuben is planning on attending the CACIWC conference on Saturday, November 13, 2010. If anyone else is interested in attending, please let Ms. Reuben know over the weekend.
Respectfully submitted,
Emily Leveille
