TOWN OF GRANBY
CONSERVATION COMMISSION
MINUTES
February 3, 2011
PRESENT: Neil Hornish, Shelley Reuben, and Carolyn Flint.
Also present was Lindsay Fetzner of thegranbys.patch.com.
Chairman Hornish could not confirm a quorum so informal discussion began at 7:43pm.
OPEN COMMISSION SEATS:
Chairman Hornish informed the Commission that Anna Sogliuzzo met with the Democratic Town Committee (DTC) to be nominated to fill one of the vacancies on the Conservation Commission. The DTC will nominate her for the seat at the next Board of Selectmen’s meeting.
If Ms. Sogliuzzo is approved by the Board of Selectman, she will fill Mr. Charlie Katan’s seat. The Commission will then have one vacancy as Mr. Joe Zafian resigned from the Conservation Commission in January.
JANUARY 20, 2011 MEETING MINUTES:
The minutes from the January 20, 2011 Conservation Commission meeting were reviewed and will be approved at the next meeting when a quorum is met.
PUBLIC LIBRARY DISPLAY:
Chairman Hornish and Vice-Chair Reuben assembled the display at the Granby Public Library for the month of February. Ms. Reuben will request the larger bulletin board to do a joint display with the Granby Camera Club for a future month.
NATURAL RESOURCE INVENTORY (NRI):
Chairman Hornish will continue to review information on farmland and the use of Public Act 490 in Granby.
Ms. Flint volunteered to work on the section on scenic roads.
Chairman Hornish will contact Ms. Dwyer to see how she is doing with her section on wildlife corridors.
DRAFT RIDGELINE GUIDELINES:
Chairman Hornish will bring the letter he drafted to the Planning and Zoning (P&Z) Commission suggesting the P&Z adopt the Ridgeline Guidelines to the next Commission meeting for review.
Ms. Flint will contact former Commissioner Ms. Torri Mazze-Stepanov to gain insight on how the Commission began creating the Ridgeline Guidelines in 2007.
CLEAN ENERGY TASK FORCE:
The CT Clean Energy Fund wants the electrical usage totals for the Town. Ms. Reuben will ask the Town Manager’s office what the Town’s electrical usage total is and compare it to the database she has created.
Ms. Reuben commented that a representative from The Valley News is very interested in details on the upcoming Clean Energy Fair and would like to stay in touch with the Commission as plans are made.
On February 23, 2011 Northeast Utilities will be holding a seminar in Berlin, CT on promoting energy efficient projects. Vice-Chair Reuben will forward information about the seminar to Commission members as registration is required for the event.
Informal discussion ended at 7:58pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Emily Leveille
