Conservation Commission Minutes 03-05-2009
TOWN OF GRANBY

CONSERVATION COMMISSION
MINUTES
March 5, 2009

PRESENT: Mike Lengvarsky, Carolyn Flint, Susan Dwyer, Victoria Mazzei-Stepanov, and Charles Katan

Mr. Nicholas Lengvarsky and Ms. Jennifer Lengvarsky of 7 Strong Road, attended the meeting as well.

Chairman Lengvarsky called the meeting to order and confirmed a quorum at 7:41pm

MINUTES:

The minutes from the February 19, 2009 meeting were read.

The date of Chairman Lengvarsky’s meeting with Mr. Fran Armentano should be February 20, 2009, not February 6, 2009, in the third paragraph of the Natural Resource Inventory section of the minutes.

Ms. Flint also noted the word “amended” was misspelled in the “Minutes” section of the February 19, 2009 minutes.

ON A MOTION by Ms. Flint, seconded by Ms. Dwyer, the minutes were approved as amended on a 4-0-1 vote. Ms. Mazzei-Stepanov abstained from voting as she was not in attendance at the February 19, 2009 meeting.

NATURAL RESOURCE INVENTORY:

Ms. Carolyn Flint and Ms. Susan Dwyer will be spearheading the Commission’s efforts to inventory Granby’s natural resources. They will work together to research data from NEMO, the Farmington Valley Watershed Association, and the State Plan of Conservation, and will then prepare an outline of items one would find in a natural resources inventory. This outline will be presented to the Commission at a future meeting.

20% BY 2010 CAMPAIGN:

Ms. Shelly Rueben is working diligently on the project. Mr. Nicholas Lengvarsky and Ms. Jennifer Lengvarsky were in attendance and announced to the Commission their interest in working with Ms. Reuben as student volunteers.

Chairman Lengvarsky met with Mr. Fran Armentano of Planning and Zoning, and Town Manager Bill Smith on February 20, 2009. He learned from Town Manager Smith that Granby has committed to purchase 4-6% of its energy from renewable resources for 2010. Chairman Lengvarsky will get more information from Town Manager Smith at a later date.

NEW BUSINESS:

Amy Petras has confirmed the Rainbarrel Event for June 13, 2009. Chairman Lengvarsky will submit the appropriate forms to town officials to reserve a place to hold the event. The Commission agreed they should have a booth advertising the 20% by 2010 Campaign at the Rainbarrel Event.
Mr. Charles Katan informed the Commission on the new recycling procedures which will begin in July.

ON A MOTION by Ms. Victoria Mazzei-Stepanov, seconded by Mr. Charles Katan, the Commission voted (5-0-0) to adjourn the meeting at 8:05pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Emily Leveille
Recording Secretary
