TOWN OF GRANBY
CONSERVATION COMMISSION
MINUTES
April 2, 2009
PRESENT: Mike Lengvarsky, Carolyn Flint, Susan Dwyer, Victoria Mazzei-Stepanov, and Neil Hornish
Ms. Sherry Reuben attended the meeting as well.
Chairman Lengvarsky called the meeting to order and confirmed a quorum at 7:37pm
MINUTES:
The minutes from the March 5, 2009 meeting were read.
ON A MOTION by Ms. Mazzei-Stepanov, seconded by Ms. Flint, the minutes were approved as amended on a 4-0-1 vote. Mr. Hornish abstained from voting as he was not in attendance at the March 5, 2009 meeting.
NATURAL RESOURCE INVENTORY:
Ms. Dwyer contacted Mr. John Rozum of NEMO about coming to a commission meeting to instruct the commissioners on how to conduct a community resource inventory. The workshop usually lasts an hour and a half and is free of charge. After some discussion, the Commission asked Ms. Dwyer to once again contact Mr. Rozum to request his presence at the May 7, 2009 meeting.
20% BY 2010 CAMPAIGN:
Ms. Shelly Rueben reported to the Commission that she had a meeting with Superintendent Adley. Mr. Adley was uncomfortable with the Commission’s approach to having students go door-to-door promoting the program. Instead, he suggested contacting Ms. Ruth Ann Lobo to get a list of existing student clubs who would be interested in the project.
Ms. Rueben’s also mentioned her mother would be interested in helping the Commission with the project, and could perhaps give a presentation on the campaign at the senior men’s breakfast. Chairman Lengvarsky suggested the presentation be taped by GCTV, if possible.
The Commission is considering putting a blurb about the campaign on the town’s website, which will include an explanation of the program and a link to the state’s program site.
NEW BUSINESS:
Amy Petras has confirmed the Rainbarrel Event for June 13, 2009 from 10am-1pm. Chairman Lengvarsky will contact Ms. Petras for flyers which will be posted throughout town.
The Commission thanks the Friends of the Granby Public Library for adding an article on the CT 20% by 2010 Campaign into their town-wide newsletter.
ON A MOTION by Ms. Carolyn Flint, seconded by Mr. Neil Hornish, the Commission voted (5-0-0) to adjourn the meeting at 8:16pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Emily Leveille
