Conservation Commission Minutes 06-25-2009
TOWN OF GRANBY

CONSERVATION COMMISSION
MINUTES
June 25, 2009

PRESENT: Mike Lengvarsky, Susan Dwyer, Carolyn Flint, Shelley Reuben, and Neil Hornish

Chairman Lengvarsky called the meeting to order and confirmed a quorum at 7:39pm

MINUTES:

The minutes from the June 8, 2009 meeting were read. Ms. Flint noted the word “crating” should read “creating” under the 20% by 2010 Campaign section of the minutes.

ON A MOTION by Mr. Hornish, seconded by Ms. Reuben, the minutes were approved as amended on a 5-0-0 vote.

20% BY 2010 CAMPAIGN:

Ms. Shelley Reuben reported to the Commission that the Celebrate Granby event was a success. She and Mr. Hornish were able to network with other Commissions and clubs throughout town.

Ms. Reuben submitted an article about the campaign to The Granby Drummer which will be published in the July issue. She is also interested in submitting weekly articles to The Granby News.

On July 24, 2009 the library will be sponsoring an event at the Senior Center from 7pm-9pm on the Solar Leasing Program. Ms. Reuben will also speak at the event giving an informational presentation on the 20% by 2010 campaign.

RAINBARREL EVENT:

Chairman Lengvarsky announced that forty-eight rain barrels were sold at the event on June 13, 2009. Brochures advertising the 20% by 2010 campaign were also handed out to each individual who purchased a barrel.

COMMUNITY RESOURCE INVENTORY:

Ms. Christian made photocopies for the Commission of the Woodstock Community Resource Inventory (CRI). After reviewing the CRI, the commission had a few suggestions on how to proceed.

Ms. Flint suggests the Commission start with an inventory of the natural resources and then move forward. The overall document should be inviting to read, the text should be broken up with local photos, and should be easily accessible to the townspeople.

At the next Commission meeting, the Commissioners will lay out all ideas and prioritize them to create an outline for the town’s CRI.

NEW BUSINESS: None

ON A MOTION by Ms. Susan Dwyer, seconded by Ms. Shelley Reuben, the Commission voted (5-0-0) to adjourn the meeting at 8:29pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Emily Leveille
Recording Secretary
