CONSERVATION COMMISSION
MINUTES
December 3, 2009
PRESENT: Mike Lengvarsky, Charles Katan, Shelley Reuben, Neil Hornish, Carolyn Flint, and Susan Dwyer
Also in attendance was Mr. Robert I. Brockett of 235 North Granby Road.
Chairman Lengvarsky called the meeting to order and confirmed a quorum at 7:37pm
MINUTES:
The minutes from the November 19, 2009 meeting were read.
ON A MOTION by Ms. Flint, seconded by Ms. Reuben, the minutes were approved as amended on a 6-0-0 vote.
CONSERVATIONS PROJECT INVENTORY:
About two years ago the Commission went through a few work sessions to determine what the responsibilities were for the Commission and what items were candidate items for the Commission to work on. Also the Commission decided whether items were redundant with other items on the list or with another project a group or commission in the Town was working on.
Another idea the Commission considered during these work sessions was to create an off-shoot of the Town’s website which contained links to sites which have information on land protection, stewardship, watershed management and resources, and general conservation resource websites.
Ms. Reuben also brought up the idea of addressing the issue of plastic bag and Styrofoam use and adding it to the Conservation Commission Projects worksheet.
Some discussion took place on the status of the draft regulations on Commercial Foresting Harvesting which were mentioned in the Projects worksheet.
Chairman Lengvarsky asked all Commissioners to hang on to the Projects list and feel free to bring it up at upcoming meetings with ideas or changes.
COMMUNITY RESOURCE INVENTORY (CRI):
Ms. Reuben passed around a farm map for Granby found on the Town’s Agricultural Commission website. It’s a fairly current map and highlights the farms throughout Granby.
Chairman Lengvarsky will be meeting with Mr. Fran Armentano on Friday, December 4, 2009 and will ask if he has a map of all farm properties in Town.
Ms. Flint suggested adding the definition of the word ‘farm’ to the CRI.
Chairman Lengvarsky suggested Ms. Reuben speak with the Horse Council in Granby to get more information for the agricultural section of the CRI.
20% BY 2010 CAMPAIGN:
No new information on the 20% by 2010 Campaign. A discussion of the New England Community Energy Challenge will be held at the next Conservation Commission meeting.
NEW BUSINESS:
None
ON A MOTION by Mr. Hornish, seconded by Ms. Dwyer, the Commission voted (6-0-0) to adjourn the meeting at 8:31pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Emily Leveille
