CONSERVATION COMMISSION
MINUTES
December 17, 2009
PRESENT: Mike Lengvarsky, Charles Katan, Shelley Reuben, and Neil Hornish
Also in attendance was Mr. Alex Hernsdorf, who was in attendance to observe the meeting for a Boy Scout requirement.
Chairman Lengvarsky called the meeting to order and confirmed a quorum at 7:40pm
MINUTES:
The minutes from the December 3, 2009 meeting were read.
ON A MOTION by Mr. Hornish, seconded by Ms. Reuben, the minutes were approved on a 4-0-0 vote.
COMMUNITY RESOURCE INVENTORY (CRI):
Chairman Lengvarsky met with Mr. Fran Armentano, Director of Community Development, and Mr. Armentano will be in attendance at the January 7, 2010 meeting of the Conservation Commission to discuss the CRI project with the Commissioners.
Mr. Hornish created a map of Granby highlighting properties in Granby, and thought it would help Ms. Reuben who is interested in creating a map of Granby’s farms. Commissioner Hornish presented his second draft of the CRI open space section to the fellow Commissioners.
Chairman Lengvarsky suggested Mr. Hornish add a third bullet under the section ‘Wildlife Habitat’ (page 4 in the draft) which would discuss ‘wildlife corridors’. Mr. Hornish will add this bullet to his draft.
20% BY 2010 CAMPAIGN:
Chairman Lengvarsky announced that Granby now has 108 sign ups with credits of 132 points. Chairman Lengvarsky also talked to Mr. John Adams of the Board of Selectman about the prospect of supporting an alternative energy task force, and they will discuss the topic more in-depth after the new year.
NEW BUSINESS:
Mr. Hornish and State Representative Hornish talked this week with Viridian Energy & Environmental, LLC and discussed the outcome of their meeting with the Commissioners.
No progress yet on filling the commissioner vacancy.
Mr. Hornish also announced that State Representative Hornish will be doing an informational session on smart growth sometime in January. Chairman Lengvarsky suggested Thursday, January 21, 2010 as a date for the meeting instead of holding a Conservation Commission meeting.
ON A MOTION by Ms. Reuben, seconded by Mr. Hornish, the Commission voted (4-0-0) to adjourn the meeting at 8:35pm.
