TOWN OF GRANBY
GRANBY DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION
Monday, January 12, 2009
7:00 P.M.
Present: Bud Murtha, Chairman, Martin Schwager, Robert Rome, John Krug, and Fran Armentano, Director of Community Development.
The meeting opened at 7:03 pm.
The Commission discussed the state of the economy. The anticipated Federal Stimulus Funds were discussed together with opportunities for the Town to apply for the funds. The Commission discussed progress on the Regional Plan of Conservation and Development and the anticipated section concerning the Town of Granby. Fran Armentano has been working on this. The plan should have a special focus on the Granby Center and the Floydville Road area.
The Commission discussed recent Planning and Zoning activity, noting the approval of a package store for a vacant store on Bank Street and the approval of the Winery on Lost Acres Road.
Vacant commercial space was discussed, as was the possibility of installing sidewalks in the future. The Commission was informed of the appointment of a new Town Engineer.
The Commission discussed the construction that has started at 21/23 Hartford Avenue where Winsor Federal is building their new branch office. The building will contain 3,320 square feet. The properties located at 21 and 23 Hartford Avenue recently sold for $375,000 and $350,000 respectively. Only half of the properties are in a commercial zone with the back portions in a residential zone. The Commission discussed the property at 37 Hartford Avenue where a 13,500 square foot office building is approved. This property recently sold for $314,000. The property was recently cleared and prepped for construction. And the Commission discussed the former single family home located at 34 East Granby Road, which has been converted to the office of Frank Schoenrock, CPA.
The Commission discussed the activity of the Housing Rehabilitation program
The remainder of the meeting was set aside to discuss the proposed mixed use zoning plan for the Center of Town. The final draft has been approved by the members and they agreed to send it to the Planning and Zoning Commission. The Development Commission Chairman sent a letter to the PZC that explained the process and the proposal. The letter included supporting materials taken from the Plan of Conservation and Development.
