LIBRARY EXPANSION STUDY COMMITTEE
REGULAR MEETING
DECEMBER 3, 2008
Chairman Bill Kennedy called the regular meeting of the Library Expanson Study Committee to order at 7:00 p.m.
Present: Bill Kennedy, Chairman; Linda Veirs, Gerard Smyth, and Del Shilkret
Others present: Joan Fox, Evie Caranchini, and Lynn Lochhead
There was no public comment.
ON A MOTION by Gerard Smyth, seconded by Del Shilkret, the Committee voted unanimously (4-0-0) to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of November 19, 2008, as presented.
Joan Fox, Director of Library Services, reported on a conversation she had with Town Manager Smith about library space. Town Manager Smith made suggestions to add a cable/tv room, additional staff workspace, and public workstations for a total amount 22,925 sq. ft. library space being proposed. She also indicated that there may be some grant money available by vendor agencies for a possible feasibility study.
The Committee held a discussion regarding references for architects and setting up interviews with possible architects for the library building expansion. The Committee concurred to interview five architects. Chairman Kennedy will contact the possible architects for interview presentations later this month (tentatively Dec. 16th and Dec. 17th). Also discussed was the interview process for that evening. There will be a presentation and a Q&A period for each interviewee. The architects being interviewed will be sent some informational documentation.
Distributed to the Committee were a Library Space Planning Guide Worksheet, Architect Interview Questions, information on additional room space, and information from Library Journal December issue.
ON A MOTION by Gerard Smyth, seconded by Del Shilkret, the Committee voted unanimously (4-0-0) to adjourn the meeting at 8:37 p.m.
