Library Expansion Committee Minutes 12/16/2008 12/17/2008
TOWN OF GRANBY
LIBRARY EXPANSION STUDY COMMITTEE
ARCHITECT INTERVIEWS
December 16 and 17, 2008

Present:  Bill Kennedy, Linda Veirs, Gerard Smyth, Del Shilkret, and Roger Hernsdorf

Others present:  Joan Fox, Lynn Lochhead, and Dick Lydon

INTERVIEWS

Chairman Kennedy started the interviews at 6:30 p.m.  Three Architect firms introduced themselves and presented their initial ideas for a library expansion.  The first firm interviewed was JCJ Architecture from Hartford, CT.  The second firm was Drummey Rosane Anderson, Inc. (DRA) from Windsor, CT and the third firm was Kenyon & Cutler Architects from Avon, CT.

OTHER BUSINESS

Chairman Kennedy surveyed the committee regarding pursuing an interview time with Peter Gisolfi Associates.  He will contact them once more to see if one of three times presented could be agreed upon to meet.  If not, the committee will proceed with just the five firms interviewed.

General conversation regarding the three firms interviewed ensued.  The committee would prefer to wait and discuss all the firms once all the presentations have been made.

RECESSED

The meeting recessed at 9:33 p.m.  The meeting will continue on December 17, 2008 at 6:30 p.m.

The Committee reconvened on December 17, 2008 at 6:30 p.m.

Present:  Bill Kennedy, Linda Veirs, Gerard Smyth, Del Shilkret, and Roger Hernsdorf

Others present:  Joan Fox, Lynn Lochhead, and Dick Lydon

INTERVIEWS

Chairman Kennedy started the interviews at 6:30 p.m.  Two Architect firms introduced themselves and presented their initial ideas for a library expansion.  The first firm interviewed was Jacunski and Humes from Berlin, CT.  The second firm was Tuthill & Wells from Avon, CT.

OTHER BUSINESS

Chairman Kennedy reported to the committee that Peter Gisolfi is available to meet on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at 1:00 p.m.  This meeting will be held at the Police Department Community Room.

Discussion ensued regarding the State Library grant.  If it is applied for in August 2009, and is received, how long can the town hold the money before the project must begin?  If the money needs to be returned because the project hasn’t started in a timely manner, can the town re-apply or is this option of funding lost?  More information regarding details of this grant will be obtained.
ADJOURNMENT

The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
