LIBRARY EXPANSION STUDY COMMITTEE
January 21, 2009
Present: Bill Kennedy, Linda Veirs, Del Shilkret, Gerry Smyth and Roger Hernsdorf
Others present: Joan Fox, Lynn Lochhead, and Dick Lydon
The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m.
There was no public comment.
Chairman Kennedy discussed the possibility that the architect selected might be able to have schematics and a rough quote within 90 days. This might allow the project to be considered “shovel ready” and eligible for the federal government’s economic stimulus package. The committee discussed some of the potential advantages and disadvantages or this possibility. The committee will keep tabs on it and see where the project is in 60 days.
ON A MOTION by Gerry Smyth, seconded by Del Shilkret, the minutes of the December 3, 2008 meeting were approved. (4-0-1)
ON A MOTION by Del Shilkret, seconded by Roger Hernsdorf, the minutes of the December 16, 2008 meeting were approved. (5-0-0)
ON A MOTION by Gerry Smyth, seconded by Linda Veirs, the minutes of the December 23, 2008 meeting were approved (5-0-0)
ON A MOTION by Roger Hernsdorf, seconded by Del Shilkret, the minutes of the January 9, 2009 meeting were approved (4-0-1)
The committee discussed their research on the top two architectural firms.
ON A MOTION by Del Shilkret seconded by Linda Veirs, the committee voted unanimously to recommend Peter Gisolfi Associates to be selected for design services on the library expansion project.
This recommendation will be forwarded to the Board of Selectmen. It will be up to the selectmen to request funds (approximately $30,000) for the design services. The Town Manager’s office will need to draw up a contract with the architect.
Roger Hernsdorf shared a progress report that he presented to the library board at their meeting on January 12.
The next meeting is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, February 18, 2009.
