Library Expansion Committee Minutes 02/18/2009
TOWN OF GRANBY
LIBRARY EXPANSION STUDY COMMITTEE
February 18, 2009

Present:  Bill Kennedy, Del Shilkret, Gerry Smyth and Roger Hernsdorf

Others present:  Joan Fox, Lynn Lochhead, and Dick Lydon

The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m.

There was no public comment.

ON A MOTION by Roger Hernsdorf, seconded by Del Shilkret, the minutes of the January 21, 2009 meeting were approved (4-0-0).

Chairman Kennedy reported that, due to the difficult financial times, the selectmen will not consider funding the architect’s study until after the budget season. Selectman Adams suggested that the Library Expansion Study Committee return to the Board of Selectmen in May when they would have a better idea of the town’s financial picture.

Mr. Kennedy stated that Gisolfi Architects would consider starting the work and delaying payment until the new budget year (July 2009). The committee realizes that this is not an advisable course of action, since the fees have not been approved for either fiscal year.

The committee discussed the idea of asking the architect for a breakdown of what could be accomplished over the next couple months with a smaller price tag. Del Shilkret suggested that perhaps some community discussions and a rough conceptual drawing could be purchased for a few thousand dollars. This would keep the project in the public eye.

William Kennedy agreed to talk to Peter Gisolfi to discuss such options. If Peter can come up with a plan for a smaller part of the study, Mr. Kennedy will talk to Town Manager William Smith and First Selectmen John Adams for their reaction and advice.

ON A MOTION by Gerry Smyth, seconded by Del Shilkret, the meeting was adjourned at 7:45 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
