The Board reviewed the minutes of December 14, 2009.  Corrections noted include: D. Lydon was absent.  Fund Raising does not have just $3,500 to go.  To date $4,000 is committed and another $6,000 is needed for fund raising efforts.

ON A MOTION by C. Bressor, seconded by L. Blessis, the Board voted (4-0-1), to approve the minutes of the meeting of December 14, 2009 with the noted changes.  D. Lydon abstained.

Library activities reported by Joan Fox:
  • Thursday, January 14, 2010, Town Hall Meeting Room - Sally Roberts, civil litigator and avid outdoorswoman, presents "More Than One Way to Escape a Courtroom - Finding Balance in Life Through The Great Outdoors".
Thursday, February 4, 2010, Town Hall Meeting Room – Connecticut Forum
Sunday, February 14, 2010, Granby Public Library – Chinese New Year program.  For older children to adults.  Learn about the Chinese New Year and sample foods, etc.
Rhonda Gilbert and Evie Caranchini attended a Children’s Roundtable meeting.  This year, the state’s summer reading program is about the ocean, etc.  This meeting covered this program.
  • The JobNow website was covered in a nice article in the Granby News.
  • Snapshot Day is on Thursday, February 18, 2010.  This is a nationwide program to show what’s going on in the library world.  J. Fox has a list of questions to answer, which she will do and send in with pictures taken on this day.  There will be ideas as to how to use the results to promote the library.  It was asked if a volunteer could be recruited to be at the library for the day to take pictures.  Maybe someone from the Camera Club.
  • Upcoming Library closings:  Monday, January 18, 2010 – Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and Monday, February 15, 2010 - President’s Day.
  • The Holcomb Farm Book Club is aware of six or seven people who have borrowed the book “Wisdom of the Last Farmer”.  This book is recently published and it was found that alot of libraries didn’t have it yet.
  • Ann Dinse has given up the position of President of the Friends of the Granby Public Library.  Del Shilkret has replaced her.
Old Business

Chairman Lochhead commented she still is not getting the minutes from the Friends of Cossitt Library, Friends of Granby Public Library, or the Granby Library Board.

Expansion Committee Update:  No new news on the expansion project.  The state is surveying towns to see what plans they might have, for within the next five years, regarding expansions.  The Board feels this idea should be kept alive.

Board Vacancies:  Judy Guarco (R) will be joining the Board.  She still needs to be appointed by the Board of Selectmen.  B. Donna and S. Ball will both seek re-appointment.  Marty Council notified Chairman Lochhead that he won’t seek re-appointment as a member.  This creates a (D) vacancy.

Cossitt Improvement Project:  Rose Brodeur, a town resident, might be willing to help set up the fundraising efforts.  The Board is looking for ideas as to the best way to raise funds.  L. Blessis will set up a meeting with herself, L. Lochhead, and R. Brodeur.  J. Fox may join them too.  Fundraising should be started as soon as possible.  Lack of funds raised won’t affect the start of the renovation project.  The Board is looking for a timeline of the project, as soon as it’s available.  It will help with the fundraising goal dates.

GLB Liaisons to Friends and GLA:  D. Lydon has been attending the meetings of the Granby Library Association.  J. Goff attended the last meeting of the Friends of the Granby Public Library on December 28th.  A liaison for the Friends of the Cossitt Library is still needed.  There was general discussion about the upcoming repairs at Cossitt.  Also, what GLA is doing and D. Rowles has been contacted for information.  There is concern about donating to a non-profit group and how their by-laws read regarding this issue.  Clarification on matching funds raised was briefly discussed and is to be further addressed.

New Business

2010 – 2011 Budget:  There will be a Three-Board meeting on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at 7:30 p.m., at the Granby Senior Center.  The Budget Workshop for the Library will be on March 4th at 6:00 p.m.  The Board of Selectmen Liaison for the Library is Mark Neumann.

The Volunteer Tea will be on Sunday, April 11, 2010.

Adjournment

ON A MOTION by B. Donna, seconded by C. Bressor, the Board voted unanimously (5-0-0) to adjourn the meeting at 8:34 p.m.

The next meeting will be Monday, February 8, 2010, 7:30 p.m., at Granby Public Library.

Respectfully submitted,

Susan Christian
