  • Snapshot Day is Thursday, February 18, 2010.  Libraries all over the state will participate to show what goes on at a library.
Sunday, February 14, 2010 there will be a Chinese New Year program.  Learn about the Chinese New Year and sample foods, etc.
  • Upcoming Library closing - Monday, February 15, 2010, President’s Day.
  • The Holcomb Farm Book Club is now reading The Earth Knows My Name by Patricia Klindienstis and will hold a discussion on February 23, 2010.  Chairman Lochhead reported she had spoken with Lucy Lindeyer, who told her she had heard from the author of Wisdom of the Last Farmer, David Mas Masumoto.  He was glad to see the group had read this book and hoped they all enjoyed it.
  • There is an upcoming Tales of Mother Goose program at the Granby Public Library on March 6th with storyteller Valentine Shaw.
  • Keep it Green book club is for ages six to nine.  This is a series of programs on green topics to be held March 10th and 24th and April 14th and 28th.

  • A Connecticut Forum was held on February 4th.  It was a good event, showing on DVD a discussion, which took place at the Bushnell and having the group discuss it.
Old Business

Expansion Committee Update:  There is no new news on the expansion project.

Board Vacancies:  There is one (D) vacancy created by Marty Council.

Cossitt Improvement Project and Fund Raising:  L. Blessis and L. Lochhead met with Rose Brodeur to discuss fund raising efforts.  Several different ideas were discussed including: advertising in the Drummer, identifying the Mission Statement for fund raising, approaching area businesses to ask for donations, or put together a brochure using the article from the September Drummer.  It has to be kept in mind that there is not much money available to advertise for fund raising.  Discussion ensued regarding the Library Board spearheading the fund raising efforts.  It appears that the Friends of the Cossitt Library may not interested in leading the fund raising efforts, nor the Granby Library Association.
Chairman Lochhead stated she would like to see a liaison between Granby Library Association and the Granby Library Board regarding the fund raising.  It is important to send thank you notes to everyone who makes a donation.

GLB Liaisons to Friends and GLA:  D. Lydon has been attending the meetings of the Granby Library Association and J. Goff attends the Friends of the Granby Public Library meetings when she can.  A liaison for the Friends of the Cossitt Library is still needed.

Reappointments for 2010:  Shawn Ball and Bob Donna have been reappointed for another three-year term.  Their terms will expire January 14, 2013.

2010 – 2011 Budget – Workshop & Meeting Dates:  The library workshop date is March 13th, 6:00 p.m. at the Town Hall.  The Public Hearing is April 12th, 7:00 p.m. at the High School Auditorium and the Annual Budget Meeting is April 26th, 7:00 p.m. at the High School Auditorium.
The Board agrees the public needs to speak up and let the Selectmen know that they don’t want cuts at the library.  This can be done by writing a letter to the Selectmen or calling them to voice their concerns.  Library volunteers and past board members should also be encouraged to speak out in support of the library.
Mike Guarco, Board of Finance Chairman, is holding office hours February 16th and February 24th.  The public is welcome to meet with him to discuss budget matters.

The April 12th meeting will be at 6:00 p.m. at the Granby Public Library.  Pizza will be served.  People can then attend the Budget Meeting at the High School at 7:00 p.m.

Volunteer Recognition Tea:  Sunday, April 11, 2010 at Cossitt Library from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

New Business

None.

Adjournment

ON A MOTION by J. Goff, seconded by C. Bressor, the Board voted unanimously (7-0-0) to adjourn the meeting at 9:00 p.m.

The next meeting will be Monday, March 8, 2010, 7:30 p.m., at Granby Public Library.

Respectfully submitted,
