Old Business

Expansion Committee Update:  L. Lochhead reported that five architect firms will be interviewed on December 16th and 17th.  These firms will be given a list of questions ahead of time, to be answered at the interview.  J. Fox and L. Veirs have completed the state form for total square footage needs.  Space for Granby Community Television (GCTV) will be considered.  The choosing of an architect will be done by the beginning of the new year.
J. Fox, L. Veirs, E. Caranchini, and D. Shilkret attended the Library Journal Design Institute program, which had a “Going Green” theme.  J. Fox reported that it was a good program and Granby’s library was used as an example for a “green” addition.  The audience was encouraged to comment on the proposed plans with their own thoughts and ideas.  She spoke about LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards, which is a voluntary, consensus-based national standard for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings.  One point of interest J. Fox learned at this meeting is that if the library is to remain open during the building of an addition and renovations, the process will take longer.

Cossitt Repairs Update:  J. Fox spoke with J. Klase, Director of Public Works, regarding the condition of the steps at Cossitt Library.  They will be painted in the spring.  This Board thought that the stairs actually need repairs, which will be costly.  J. Fox passed out copies of plans showing the downstairs entry being modified to make handicapped accessible.  The support beans for the building were also show on these plans.  The leaking window issue needs to be looked into further.

Board Vacancy:  As of January 2009 there will be one vacancy on this Board.  This is a Republican or Unaffiliated vacancy.

New Business

Budget 2009-2010:  The Board will look at the Long-range Library plan to see what was projected for this time frame.  The Board feels that if an extra staff person has been asked for in the past that it should continue to be asked for.  Computer and book purchases will be looked at too.  The Board members will email Joan Fox any thoughts or suggestions they may have.

Adjournment

The meeting adjourned at 8:38 p.m.

The next meeting will be Monday, January 12, 2009, 7:30 p.m., at Cossitt Library.

Respectfully submitted,

Susan Christian
