Granby Library Board Meeting Minutes
April 13, 2009
held at Granby Public Library


Call to order:  A quorum was present and the meeting was called to order at 6:04 p.m.
Members present:        Chairman Lynn Lochhead, Dick Lydon, Shawn Ball, Carol Bressor, Lisa Blessis, and Bob Donna (arrived at 6:15 p.m.)
Members excused:  Judy Goff and Marty Council
Staff:  Robin Bennett
Visitors:  Bruce Sullivan

Minutes
ON A MOTION by C. Bressor, seconded by D. Lydon, the Board voted unanimously (5-0-0), to approve the minutes of the meeting of March 9, 2009.  

Public Comment:  None.

Director’s Report

Sunday Statistics (Jan. – March) - 89 average patrons, 197 average items borrowed, 185 average items checked in.  Borrowed/returned items have increased 18% this past year.

Robin Bennett reported on miscellaneous items:

  • Bears in Connecticut program will be April 18th.  Registration has been closed, no more space available.
  • Connecticut Forum/The Simpsons program will be April 23rd.  Registration is requested.
  • The English Garden Lady, Green Earth Lecture is May 7th.  Free tickets are available and will go fast.  
        The Board’s suggestion for economic and job programs has been forwarded to the Senior Center for programming consideration.
        Cossitt Library will be submitting a proposal to the Hartford Foundation for funds to improve access to the Children’s Room and put in the support beams.  If approved, the town will be expected to raise $10,000 in local funds.
  • Granby Public Library and Cossitt Library will be closed on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, May 23, 24, and 25, 2009 in observance of Memorial Day.
Cossitt

No report.  No new program announcements.

Old Business

Two children’s books have been purchased, for Cossitt Library, to honor Duncan Rowles.  “Veterans Day" by Mir Tamim Ansary and "United States Navy" by Richard Bartlett.  Also, a Veteran related DVD will be purchased for the main library.

Expansion Committee Update:  L. Lochhead spoke with Bill Kennedy who had nothing to report at this time.  Once the budget process is over, this matter will be re-addressed.

Board Vacancy:  no volunteer has been found yet.

2009-10 Budget:  The Budget Public Hearing is tonight at 7:00 pm. at the High School Auditorium.  The library portion shows an increase from $468,809 for FY 2008-08 to $472,119 for FY 2009-10.

ON A MOTION by B. Donna, seconded by S. Ball the Board voted unanimously (6-0-0) to adjourn the meeting at 6:35 p.m.

The next meeting will be Monday, May 11, 2009, 7:30 p.m., at Cossitt Library.
