Minutes

Upon reviewing the minutes of May 11, 2009 it was noted under Expansion Committee Update: the Hartford Foundation Grant was written and submitted by James Klase.  The $10,000 in town giving is actually from fund raising efforts.  And, where it’s written: If the Foundation accepts the grant, should read: If the Foundation awards the grant.

ON A MOTION by M. Council, seconded by C. Bressor, the Board voted unanimously (5-0-0), to approve the minutes of the meeting of May 11, 2009 with the above corrections.

Public Comment:  None.

Director’s Report:

  • There was an article in the Libraries by Design spring edition about Granby’s participation in the Design Institute East.  Peter Gisolfi Associates created an expansion plan for the Granby Library to use as a presentation.
  • The Granby News recently published an article regarding Governor Rell’s proposed cuts to state library services, which would include interlibrary loan, IConn, request, the service centers – in short, most all of the services libraries and patrons rely on.  General discussion ensued about how to handle certain things without state funds.
        J. Fox submitted a grant to Target Corporation.  This request is for funds to support delivery of materials to and programming for day care facilities.
High School students are parking at the Town Hall complex between the Library and the Town Hall.  They are taking up parking spaces for library patrons.  J. Fox is working towards a solution with the Chief of Police.
  • The Library staff has identified some missing items and reported them to the police.  There was discussion about having a complete inventory of the library done.  J. Fox said that would be very timely.  Maybe this could be incorporated into the Long Range Plan for Library Services.
The girl’s book club is going very well.  This group is very enthusiastic.  In July each girl will bring a book to talk about and in August they will probably do a craft.

Cossitt

No report.

Old Business

Expansion Committee Update:  L. Lochhead reported this plan is on the shelf for now due to budget constraints.

Board Vacancy:  no volunteer has been found yet.  This volunteer should be a Republican or an Unaffiliated voter.

2009-10 Budget:  The 2009-10 Budget has passed.  There were no cuts made to the library budget.

New Business

At the next meeting the Fall Tea should be discussed.  Sunday, October 25th seems to be a good date for this activity.

Another agenda item for July should be the annual review of the Long Range Plan for Library Services.

Adjournment

ON A MOTION by M. Council, seconded by C. Bressor the Board voted unanimously (5-0-0) to adjourn the meeting at 8:30 p.m.

The next meeting will be Monday, July 13, 2009, 7:30 p.m., at Granby Public Library.

Respectfully submitted,

Susan Christian
