TOWN OF GRANBY
BOARD OF SELECTMEN
PUBLIC HEARING
MINUTES
DECEMBER 15, 2003
The Public Hearing of the Board of Selectmen was called to order by First Selectman William Simanski at 7:15 p.m.
PRESENT: John Adams, Ronald Desrosiers, Frank Judice, Sally King, Mark Neumann, and William F. Smith, Jr., Town Manager
First Selectman Adams opened the hearing and read the legal notice as published in the Hartford Courant. The Board of Selectmen has called for a Public Hearing for the purpose of hearing public comment regarding the Town of Granby proposed ordinance – Fee to be Charged Delinquent Motor Vehicle Taxpayer.
Town Manager Smith reviewed recent legislation imposing a $.50 fee per vehicle service charge for each vehicle list submitted by the town to the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). By submitting the taxpayer’s name and vehicle registration the DMV is able to refuse vehicle registration renewal until the town tax has been paid.
Lauren Stuck, Collector of Revenue for the Town of Granby, was present and provided the Board with additional information on the process and the estimated local costs associated with the proposed ordinance. By implementing the ordinance, the town would be able to charge the delinquent taxpayer a $5.00 fee in addition to taxes and interest for each reported delinquency. This $5.00 fee will help offset the newly imposed DMV service fee.
Town Manager Smith received no verbal or written correspondence regarding the proposed ordinance.
No public addressed the Board. The Public Hearing was closed at 7:30 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
William F. Smith, Jr.
Town Manager
