PARK AND RECREATION BOARD
MINUTES
January 5, 2011


PRESENT:  Edward (Ned) Allen, Chairman; Brigid Gunn, Vice Chair; L. Squire Bressor, Kathy Ungerleider, Suzanne Yucha and Kay Woodford, Director of Granby Parks & Recreation Department.

Chairman Allen called the meeting to order and confirmed a quorum at 7:38PM.

MINUTES
ON A MOTION by Squire Bressor, seconded by Kathy Ungerleider, the Board unanimously (3-0-1) approved the minutes of December 7, 2010 as presented.  

PUBLIC SESSION
None

OLD BUSINESS
A.  GAFLAC
No update.

B.  Bath House
No update.

C.  225th Celebration
No change from last report.

NEW BUSINESS
A.      Program Updates
Mrs. Woodford reported:
  • About 300 registered for the 2011 Basketball season.  Starts this week with the coaches’ meetings.
  • Sundown starts this Friday with a total of 90 registered.
  • Adult Yoga starts next week.
  • Ceramics for adults starts on Wed., Jan. 5
  • Yoga for Children starts their winter session next week.
  • Adult Zumba starts next week
  • Trips include a casino in February, a Sunday afternoon casino in March, Boston and Flower Show in March, American Museum/NYC in April plus upcoming overnight trips
  • Town Parks
  • Mrs. Woodford reported that she has met with town staff to review the fall football program and there will be a meeting with the HS administration shortly.

  • Mrs. Woodford reported that she would be meeting with the parks’ sports groups later this month to work out scheduling conflicts due to shortened seasons and reassignment of spring soccer due to the renovation of some of the back soccer fields.
  • Coalition Update
No update until March because this group now meets quarterly and the next meeting is scheduled for February.

  • Ice Skating 2011
The rink is open.  Suzanne reported that we have secured wood for a bonfire again this year; she has been in contact with the LAFD for people to “man” it.  She asked that flyers be sent to the libraries and asked that the signs be dropped at her house.  

  • Election of Officers
ON A MOTION by Squire Bressor, seconded by Suzanne Yucha, Ned Allen was elected Chairman. (5-0-0)
ON A MOTION by Squire Bressor, seconded by Suzanne Yucha, Brigid Gunn was elected Vice Chairperson. (5-0-0)

OTHER BUSINESS AS NECESSARY
        A.      Kay read a thank you from Pat Ward.
        
B.      Mrs. Woodford reported she received a response from Public Works in response to from Martha Delaney, Doggs at the 12/7/10 Public Session.  Supt. Klase noted that the flooding in the parking lot near the Dogg Park cannot be corrected without causing the brook to flood into the Park.  Also, he suggested making an enclosed area inside the current area for the timid and small dogs.

ADJOURNMENT
ON A MOTION by Squire Bressor, seconded by Suzanne Yucha, the Board voted unanimously (5-0-0) to adjourn the meeting at 8:17PM.
