February 5, 2009
PRESENT: Parks & Recreation Board Member - Edward (Ned) Allen, Chairman, Kay Woodford, Recreation Director; Chief David Watkins, Granby Police.
Civic Group Representatives: Martha Delaney, DOGGS; Audrey Lampert, Marquis; Corrine Dickerson, SBHS; Ruth Ann Lobo, GPS; Sherri Litchfield, Early Childhood Council; Bob Smith, Valley Brook Church; Debbie Cramer, Newcomers.
Others: Joan Davis, Karen Bledsoe, Sarah Kindl, Bill Ross, Tracy Gemme.
Chairman Allen called the meeting to order at 7:35 PM.

DISCUSSION
Ned Allen explained our goal of putting together a steering committee to oversee the planning of events for the 225th celebration. Using 1986 as a model, the steering committee would consist of chair people, a treasurer, publicity and fund raising committees which needs to begin work immediately.
Ideas focused in on one weekend in the fall of 2011. The steering committee would reach out to civic groups, schools, and etc. to propose, sponsor and run activities. Suggestions were made to do a fall festival week-end or combine with homecoming; it was noted that Columbus Day weekend is not a good weekend because of conflicts with groups such as the Marquis and it is also the big week-end in Granville, MA.
Other ideas included:
- Confine activities to one week-end
- Flexibility in allowing groups to expand outside this time frame with their special activities
- Parade
- Website page and link from the Town
- Tax consequences of donations; there are new rules.
The following actions took place:
1) Steering Committee – the following people volunteered for positions on the steering committee
Secretary – Karen Bledsoe
Treasurer – Bob Smith
Fund Raising Committee – Sarah Kindl, Bill Ross, Corrine Dickerson
Fireworks – Martha Delaney
- Tax Consequences for donations – Kay will check on this.
- Website – Martha will do some research; Kay will check with the Town Manager to see how they want to handle this.
- Parade – Audrey Lampert volunteered to be an organizer and work with the American Legion contact (Brian Tarbox) on this. Tentatively set date for first Saturday in October 2011 at 11:00.
- Homecoming – Ruthann Lobo will talk with HS AD.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:39PM.
