Town of Granby
225th Celebration Committee
Minutes
Thursdays, October 1, 2009
Present: Ned Allen, Sarah Kindl, Kim Becker, Bill Ross, Rita Isaacson, Sheri Litchfield, Martha Delaney, Kathy Ungerleider, Kay Woodford
Minutes: The minutes were approved ON A MOTION by Martha, seconded by Rita with the following correction: DVD voice over will be provided by Carol Laun and not the Granby Historical Society.
Public Session: Ned recapped our goal for a new member of the Events Committee.
Committee Reports:
Parade:
No report.
Fund Raising:
Bill will meet with the Granby Camera Club next week to discuss a calendar. Sarah has spoken to two (2) promoters who will send information to her in time for their meeting next week. Ned has left a message for Rose Stone but received no response. This committee will meet again on October 8.
Kathy noted that the PTO does B/W calendars every year with hand-drawn pictures by the students and sell for $5-6. Rita has quotes coming from the American School for the Deaf; it was noted that Quick Print does not do 4-color printing.
Fireworks:
Ned will forward the phone number of the company that East Hartland used to Martha. It was noted that Simsbury also does fireworks after Thanksgiving. Martha will make the contacts and have some information by the next meeting.
Events:
Kim Becker attended as a new member of the committee; she has event planning as a background. The committee will get together before the end of October and have a report by November.
Ned noted that he and Kay visited the Salmon Brook Historical Society this week to discuss what we are about; they are interested in being in the parade and will look into other activities.
Website:
We have a quote from Paul Berg to get the website up and running for at least 2 years. Estimated cost to be $5,000 and would include many modules such as an events calendar, forms, paypal availability. There was some thought that maybe this could be done a lot cheaper. The report can be e-mailed to members if they would like to see it, call Kay at the Recreation office. Sponsorships of the website was also suggested. There was discussion as to what could be done with the website after 2011.
Logo:
This is an item we need to address very soon. It was suggested that a committee of three follow-up and make the final decision. Rita will make contact with the Artist’s Guild to see if they are interested in working with us. It was decided that Rita, Bill, Sarah and Kim be the final judges in the selection of a logo.
DVD:
In order to get the production of the DVD, Kay is working on submitting a grant to the Granby Education Foundation. Because the grants are for educational purposes and the arts, it was decided that we would ask for only the cost of production. Kay will talk with Ruthann about completion of the grant.
It was suggested that we include an interior tour of some of the older homes because many people do not want to open their homes to the general public.
Budget:
Ned will p [lug the estimated numbers into our budget for the next meeting. We need to have this prepared to present to the Selectmen by mid-November.
Other Business:
Kathy has been doing some research on a cancellation stamp.
A suggestion was made to have the story of Granby illustrated by the students.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:02.
NEXT MEETING: Thursday, November 4, 2009, 7:30PM
