I. PUBLIC SESSION
Gerry Ledger, 89 Bushy Hill Road, inquired as to the status of the multi-use trail between Granby and East Granby. Town Manager Smith stated the project went out to bid and the trail portion of the project was close to the bids submitted. However, the bridge portion of the project exceeded the projected cost greatly.
Granby and East Granby are working together very closely on this project, as East Granby is the primary grantee. The two towns are petitioning the state for a modification of the bridge specs and are waiting to hear on this request.

No resignations were received or appointments made.
B. Demonstration of New Voting Machine
Registrars of Voters, Laura Wolfe (D) and Peter Goff (R) were present this evening to demonstrate the new voting machine to be used in the November election. The voting machines were provided to the town by the state utilizing federal funds. Unlike the old voting machines, the new machines will provide a verifiable paper train. The cost per machine is approximately $7,000.
The ballots are scanned and the machine will count the ballots. The scanner operates with a memory card. The ballot may be printed on both sides and there is no wrong way to insert the ballot. There is no limit on how many ballots you can have if errors are made and the ballot is rejected. The scanner can also read different ballot configurations such as might be for District One and District Two. Handicapped privacy booths will be available and a telephone voting system is also provided for handicapped residents. The telephone system is primarily aimed at those residents who are sight impaired.
The Board of Selectmen thanked the Registrars for providing the demonstration and invited them to come back in October for another demonstration prior to the November Municipal Election.
