TOWN OF GRANBY
SPECIAL TOWN MEETING
NOVEMBER 5, 2007


Electors and citizens qualified to vote in Town Meetings of the Town of Granby, Connecticut are hereby warned that a Special Town Meeting will be held in the Town Hall Meeting Room, 15 North Granby Road, Granby, Connecticut on Monday, November 5, 2007 at 8:00 p.m. for the purpose of considering and acting upon the following resolution:

BE IT RESOLVED that upon recommendation of the Board of Selectmen and upon appropriation by the Board of Finance, the Town of Granby approves the purchase of property located at 149 Old Messenger Road for an amount of $100,000.  Said property consists of about 57.3 acres and is more particularly described by the land appraisal report prepared by Thomas W. Henry, MAI, dated February 9, 2007 and is on file in the office of the Town Manager at the Granby Town Hall.

Dated at Granby, Connecticut, this 25th day of October 2007.

The warning was duly signed by all the members of the Board of Selectmen.

In the absence of the Town Moderator, Donald Wilmot, First Selectman John Adams called the Town Meeting to order at 8:05 p.m.

First Selectman Adams then called on the Town Clerk, Karen I. Hazen, to read the call as recorded on page ________.  

The RESOLUTION as recorded on page ________, was introduced by Selectman King and seconded by Frank Judice.

Fran Armentano, Director of Community Development made a presentation showing the exact location of the property and stated the current owner Ms. Elizabeth Haddad has agreed to sell the property for preservation  in the name of her mother Catherine Marshall. Ms. Haddad has made a generous offer to sell the property, valued at $160,000, to the Town for $100,000. The Town of Granby through a successful grant application will share the cost of the purchase with the State of Connecticut. The State will contribute $49,500. The Towns final cost is $50,500 plus appraisal and incidentals.

A Granby resident asked what the process of this purchase involves. It was stated that the closing of the property was next week. The Board of Finance has already approved the money, and the Resolution introduced tonight needs to be approved.

There were no other comments from the public.

First Selectman John Adams called for a vote of hands. There was no opposition.
The vote was unanimously in favor of the Resolution.

RESOLUTION APPROVED

First Selectman John Adams declared the meeting adjourned at 8:20 p.m.
