TOWN OF GRANBY
STORAGE AND VEHICLE WASH BAY COMMITTEE
REGULAR MEETING
October 1, 2008
Chairman Jim Lofink called the regular meeting of the Storage and Vehicle Wash Bay Committee to order at 7:05 p.m.
Present: Jim Lofink, Dan Pizzanello, Bill George, and Jim Sansone
Others: Mark Neumann
MINUTES
ON A MOTION by J. Sansone, seconded by W. George, the Committee voted (4-0-0) to approve the minutes of the September 17, 2008 meeting.
OLD BUSINESS
Jeff Alberti, Weston & Sampson Engineers, Inc. has not yet provided the cost projections. He hopes to have them to Chairman Lofink by the end of the week.
NEW BUSINESS
Jeff Alberti, Weston & Sampson Engineers, Inc. emailed Chairman Lofink the modifications to Alternative 1, Alternative 8, and the new Alternatives 9 & 10 for the committee to review.
The modified and new plans were reviewed:
· J. Sansone stated he liked Alternative 1, but doesn’t like the site across the street from the high school, and the use of the two adjoining parcels to the high school looks practical.
· Alternative 8 is new. The parking area access on this drawing was discussed.
· Alternative 9 is new. Lot coverage of 25% was discussed. It was noted that the town is exempt from zoning regulations in a building situation like this. The two privately owned lots adjacent to the high school could fit a building of approximately 12,500 sq. ft. Although these lots are on a hillside, the space still seems feasible.
· Alternative 10 is also new. The flood plain and aquifer on this site are seen to be a probable cause for concern. The plans of building there might not be approved by Planning & Zoning and IWWC.
· J. Sansone noted there is presently a large building for sale on Mill Pond Drive. It was previously used by a landscape company. It could solve the problem of purchasing land and building.
· The BOE has stated that their buildings are functional for now. The do, however, need additional space for bulk storage in the immediate future. Having a building of their own will ultimately eliminate the lease fee.
· The wash bay is a high priority at this time.
The Board will probably recommend the wash bay and additional storage be built at PW’s soon, and the rest of the storage ideas to be phased in over the next several years.
The three Building Committees have been asked by the Board of Selectmen to present their recommendations by the end of October. Once this has been done, the project recommendations will be presented to the Capital Program Priority Advisory Committee (CPPAC).
The committee would like to see construction costs for the storage area and wash bay at PW’s broken down separately.
ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned at 7:45 p.m.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 8, 2008, 7:00 p.m., Town Manager’s Conference Room.
Respectfully Submitted,
Susan Christian
