YOUTH COUNCIL REPORT:

  • The Grandparent/Grandchild Breakfast was held in April with 100 people served.
  • The Safe Graduation Party is scheduled for June 25-26 at the YMCA.  Donations are doing fairly well this year.  They are only down a little as compared to last year
  • Jamie Noonan is a new part-time intern and he already has a few clients.
  • Kim Waltman is almost done with her hours but needs some more supervision.  She will be done at the end of the summer.
  • Dan Foley continues to work 5 hours per week.
  • Grace Talaga will continue through next year.
YAC REPORT:

  • YAC held a sixth-grade dance on Friday, June 5th, with approximately 75 in attendance.  They raised $567.
  • Two scholarships were presented at the Senior Awards night.   Shevonne Meggie and Tommy Spatcher each received a scholarship of $500.
  • YAC will have their final meeting of the year on June 17th.  A dinner will be held to say goodbye to the seniors and recognize their contributions to YAC.
OLD BUSINESS

SEARCH Institute Survey Results:

  • Ms. Kielbasa hired a consultant, John Daviau, and he has signed a contract with the Town.  He will meet with some key representatives in the community (i.e. Town Manager, First Selectman, Chief of Police, Superintendent of Schools, etc.) after July 4th.  He will then create a presentation in a way people can understand it and assist us in presenting the information to the community.
  • Ms. Kielbasa suggested Board members go over the survey results and pick out the their top ten concerns to present to Mr. Daviau.
  • A YSB meeting may be scheduled over the summer.

NEW BUSINESS

Recruitment:

  • Several members’ terms will expire in October and we need to begin looking at recruiting new members.  Present members should e-mail their suggestions of prospective members to Kerry.
  • New members are appointed the second week of October.
  • Teri Baber will not renew her appointment.
  • There was a discussion regarding changing the meeting to an earlier time, i.e. 4:00 p.m.   Please let Kerry know which time would work best for you.

ADJOURNMENT

ON A MOTION by Linda Pollock and seconded by Sue Accetura, the meeting was adjourned at 8:00 p.m.

The next scheduled meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. in the Senior Center/Youth Services Building.
