Adults-Only Drop-In Programs
Drop-in Ballroom Dancing '09 - '10
Join Stephen Bailey for instruction.  There are no classes during school vacations, holidays, no-school days or emergency release days.  No reservations necessary, but please contact the Recreation Office (844-5356) with your name and phone number.

Adults-Only Drop-In Basketball '09 - '10
For Granby residents only, over 18 and HS graduate.  Drivers license verification required.  Participants must wear white-soled gym shoes.  Food and beverages (including water) are not permitted in the gyms.  No drop-in on vacation or no-school days.  Usage is subject to HS schedule.  Cost:  $2 per person, per evening to assist with the cost of the monitor.  Start with the Community Gym; if unavailable, try the HS gym.

Women are welcome at all of these sessions.

Beginning Ballroom in Only 2 Evenings
Learn three of the most popular dances for parties, cruises and weddings quickly so that even you "never, ever" dancers will enjoy yourselves right away!  Come to the two 2-hour classes and Jim Zaccaria will lead all the fun as you learn the most all-occasion dance (waltz), the most popular up tempo dance (swing), and one of the most joyful (merengue)!
You will receive instruction sheets to help you remember what you learn and song lists to inspire your learning.  ALL AGES welcome (adults & teens, singles or couples) and no partner or previous dance experience is necessary.

Ceramics Classes
For Adults & Youth 16+
Back by popular demand and just in time for those creative holiday gifts!  Join Hollie Hecht, Granby Art Teacher, and make unique and personal pieces for someone special.  You will have the freedom to create sculptural and decorative ceramics while exploring a variety of hand-building methods and glazing techniques. Create challenging forms while experimenting with hand-building techniques that include coil building, extruding and slab construction. This class is geared for individual abilities and all levels of experience; no previous experience needed.

Oil Painting
For Adults
Learn the basics and advanced techniques of oil painting in this 6-week course.  Students will learn composition and painting techniques as well as mixing paint in the oil medium.  This class is good for both beginners and intermediates.  Instructor is Deb Wadsworth, from the Farmington Valley Arts Center.

AARP Safe Driving Classes
Update your knowledge of the rules of the road.  Learn defensive driving techniques, find out how to compensate for age-related changes in vision, hearing and reaction time, and what to do if confronted by an aggressive driver.  Auto insurance companies provide a multiyear discount to graduates - consult your insurance agent/company about this as some give discounts for age 60+ only.

Zumba! - We’re back in Granby at Wells Road School!
For Adults & Teens 16+
Zumba is a combination of Latin inspired dance moves such as those found in salsa, cumbia, and merengue.  Join Mary Fuller (Granby Senior Center & YMCA fitness instructor) for a fun workout session dancing to international rhythms.

For Adults & Teens 16+
"Ditch the workout and join the party!"  This class is the latest form of exercise and easy to do! Zumba fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a dynamic workout system.  Learn how to salsa, cumbia, merengue and much more!  With over 3 years experience in the fitness field and 2 years teaching Zumba, instructor Caitlin Casassa will have you hooked on Zumba in no time!

Fantasy Watercolors
For Teens and Adults
This is an opportunity for both the beginner and intermediate artist to learn basic watercolor concepts. The class will focus on creating textures, background environments, color theory, special watercolor techniques and working from photo reference. Instructor, Keith Murphey, will have visual demonstrations as well as work one-on-one with students.  The goal of this 6-week course is to have students become familiar with the media and tools and apply it to their own personal works.

Keith Murphey is a teacher at the Guilford Hand Craft Center and Tracy Art Center, artist, Founder and President of the Comicbook Artists Guild, Publisher of Guild Works Publications.

Because of State budget cuts, the DEP has drastically reduced the number of courses available across the state.  Check out their website CT.gov/DEP; search for Boating Certifications & Registrations.  Follow the prompts for classes OR call them at 860-354-3679.
