Deadlines to Register for the Presidential Preference 2012 Primary Are Coming!
To be eligible to vote in the presidential primary on Tuesday, April 24th you must be a party member of the party you wish to vote for. State law prohibits cross voting in another political party’s primary. The majority of Granby voters are currently unaffiliated. To gain party affiliation, unaffiliated voters can simply fill out a voter registration card and check the box marked party enrollment change and be sure to write in a political party name. The State of Connecticut imposes a 90-day transfer or waiting period for those switching from one political party to another political party. If you change your party affiliation from one party to another before January 24, 2011, you will be eligible to vote in either presidential primary on April 24, 2011.
Municipal Election held on Tuesday, November 8th:
Thanks to the wonderful efforts of a well trained poll worker staff of Granby residents and the superb cooperation of both the staff of the Granby Memorial High School and Town of Granby Public Works Department, the election ran smoothly and despite the chaos of Storm Alfred, we had a steady day of voting with a 14.2 % turnout. It was a time to gather and share storm stories with neighbors, as well as showing support for the wonderful candidates on the ballot that are doing such a terrific job for the town of Granby. A few voters felt very strongly that the signs directing voters to the polls need to be improved and, as a consequence, the Registrars will purchase more signs for future voting events.
Voter turnout was light, as is typical for municipal elections. District 1 had a 14.4% turnout, which breaks down by party to: 229 Democrats, 330 Republicans, 2 Green, 1 Independent and 141 unaffiliated voters. District 2 had a 13.9% turnout, 78 Democrats, 168 Republicans, 1 Green and 48 unaffiliated voters. “Whitey” Lowell C. Johnson was the top vote getter in his unopposed race for Board of Assessment Appeals with 772 votes or 77.2% of the 1000 ballots cast.
