Cancellation Policy:  
All Senior Center activities and transportation services will be cancelled whenever the Granby Public Schools are cancelled.  The Town of Granby further reserves the right to cancel programs in the event of inclement weather.

Ambassador Program:  We are here to help
Ever wonder what we do at the Senior Center?  Would you come to the Senior Center activities if you had someone to come with?  Would you like a visitor or an occasional phone call?

Our Ambassador Program is just what you may be looking for.  Ambassadors are ready to help you find answers to your questions, meet you at the Center, or give you a call to see how you're doing.  They have the 'gift of gab', have great connections to services and know everything about what you can find at the Senior Center.  Call 860-844-5352 to get connected.

The Granby Senior Center is preparing a book of stories and memories to mark the occasion.  We need your help!  We are looking for interesting anecdotes regarding life in Granby.  Please consider sharing your story, call 860-844-5352.

SPECIAL EVENTS:

A Buzz About Spring:  Wednesday, May 18 at 5:00 PM
Celebrate the nicer weather with a nice meal and great entertainment.On the menu is Chicken Divan, served with rice and cranberry.  Our entertainment for the evening is the Humble Bees.  This group delivers a mixture of familiar songs, sing-alongs, and a big helping of humor.  Cost $8.  Please reserve your seat by May 13.

Ask the Doctor:  First Monday of the month at 10:00 AM
Do you have health questions?  Come listen to the latest news in medical care.  Lead by retired physcian.

VNA Health Clinic Blood Pressure Clinic:
 Thursdays from 11:15 AM to 12:15 PM
The nurses will be available to check your blood pressure.  Be sure to stop by.

Chair Massage:  First and Third (and fifth) Tuesday, from 10:00 AM - noon by appointment  
Provided by Bev Harris of Back in Touch.  15-minute chair massage.  For an appointment, call 860-844-5352.  Cost $10.

Monday Manicures: Third Monday of the month from 10:00 a.m. by appointment.  Enjoy spa-like treatment.  Cost $12

Grandparents Support Group with Ingrid Helander, LMFT, Youth Service Counselor:  Thursdays from noon to 1:00 PM
This group is for grandparents who find themselves helping to raise children for the second or third time.   Bring a bag lunch and join others like yourself to share friendships, ideas and tips on being a parent again.  Call 860-844-5355 for additional information.

HELPING HANDS:
CHOICES: Second Tuesday of the month from 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
"One-stop shopping" information source for services available to older adults.   CHOICES provides information and assistance about Medicare and other related health insurance options including:  Original Medicare, Medicare Rx, Medicare Supplement Insurance, Medicaid, Medicare Managed Care, Prescription Drug Coverage and Long-Term Care Insurance.  Please call 860-844-5350 to schedule a meeting with our counselor.

Ask the Attorney:  First Wednesday of the month at 10:00 AM
An Elder law attorney will be available to answer your questions.  Meetings are informal and informational only.

Technical Assistance:  As needed.
Having trouble sorting out your cell phone, GPS, digital camera, etc.  Come and meet with an GMHS technical student for advice.  Please call 860-844-5352 to RSVP.


Checks and Balances -  Aurelle Locke, retired tax attorney, will assist you in balancing your checkbook at the Senior Center.  Call 860-844-5352 to make an appointment.

Handicapped Parking Permits - Available in the office.  Form must be signed by a physician and returned to DMV.


Meals on Wheels - McLean Home provides meals for ill, homebound, or disabled persons.  Delivered by volunteers 5 days a week.  Call 860-653-3700.

TAP (Transportation Action Program) - This volunteer service provides rides for medical appointments.  TAP Line:  860-844-8859  Leave a message on voice mail.

CLUB NEWS:
Billiard League:  Fall and Spring Doubles Leagues.  Please call 860-844-5352 to get involved.

Camera Club:  First Monday of the month at 7:00 PM  Annual dues are $10 - Granby residents and $20 - non-Granby residents.

Civic Club:  Third Thursday of the month at 1:00 PM  All women are invited to join for service and socializing and a vision for "A Better Granby."

Men's Current Events Group:  Fourth Wednesday of the month at 1:30 PM  The group will discuss the latest happenings around town and the world.

Senior Club:  First Thursday of the month at 12:30 PM  Promotes fellowship among senior citizens.  Annual dues $3.

Men's Breakfast Group:  Second Friday of the month at 8:30 AM  Guest speakers on a variety of topics.  $2 for breakfast.

Women's Breakfast Group:  First Wednesday of the month at 8:30 AM  Guest speakers on a variety of topics.  $3 for breakfast.


AT THE CENTER:
Monday Morning Coffee:  Mondays from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM  Drop in for a cup of coffee and friendly banter.  It is the place to get the latest on Granby happenings!

Mexican Train:  A domino game: Mondays at 10:00 AM   It's easy to learn and fun to play!

Setback:  Mondays at 1:00 PM  Come join in on a fun card game with good company. FREE.

Community Cafe: Tuesdays and Thursdays at noon The Community Renewal Team (CRT) provides the meals.  Suggested donation is $2. Call 860-844-5350 by noon on Friday to sign up for the following week.

Bingo:  Every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at 12:30 PM

Artists Group:  Wednesdays from 8:30 AM to 11:00 AM  Do you have an interest in watercolors, drawing or painting?  Bring your materials and join artists during this friendly gathering.   Ideas and techniques are shared.

Wii Bowling: Wednesdays at 1:00 PM
Come join in the fun!  It's a virtual playground!

Movie Matinee: Every first and third Wednesday of the month at 1:30 PM
New releases with an occassional classic mixed in are shown.  Call the office for the current selections.

Knitting at Night:  Wednesdays from 7:00 to 9:00 PM
Knit, chat and learn from your peers.

Needleworkers: Thursdays from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM  Knitting, cross stitching, crewel work and other needlework projects are worked on during this friendly gathering.   Enjoy a cup of coffee as you work on your latest project.

Stamping Greeting Cards: Third Thursday of the month at 9:30 AM   Come and create original cards using rubber stamps.  It's fun and requires no special skills! Space is limited.  Cost  $4.

All You Need to Bead: Fridays at 9:30 AM  For those who have completed an Art is Ageless All You Need to Bead course, you may drop in with your current projects.  Work, share and enjoy time with your former classemates and instructor.
