Fuel Assistance – Applications for the Connecticut Heating Assistance Program (CHAP) are now being accepted in the Social Service Office. The CHAP helps households pay for primary heating bills.  You may be eligible if: you receive state assistance; your household receives Food Stamps; or your annual household income is below 150% of the federal poverty guideline. A household with elderly and/or disabled members whose annual gross is above 150% but below $200% may be eligible for assistance.   Applicants must provide: proof of income for all household members for the 4 weeks prior to the application date, proof of all assets, social security cards for all family members and proof of rental and mortgage expenses. Please call the office for further information or an appointment.  Income screening is available by telephone.

NUSTART:  CL&P's proram designed to give a fresh start to low-income customers whose income is below 200% of the federal poverty level and have a past due balance of $100 or more on a CL&P bill.  Through NUSTART, customers can reduce or eliminate their past due balance if they pay an agreed-upon budgeted amount on time each month.

Granby Emergency Fuel Bank – Applications will be accepted until May 1.  Please call the office for additional information.  The Granby Emergency Fuel Bank is funded solely by donations and gifts from the community.  If you wish to donate, please make the check payable to the Town of Granby Local Assistance Fund with a notation that it is intended for the Fuel Bank.

Winter Protection Program - April 15 is the last day for Winter Protection.  Please contact CL&P to make payment arrangements if you have not been making monthly payments.

Granby Food Bank  - This community service is offered by the VNA to any family or individual who may need assistance in meeting daily living expenses, particularly due to loss of income or Medicare/Medicaid limitations. Please contact the Social Service office for eligibility screening and registration.

Elderly and Disabled Renter's Relief Program:  Applications will be available from June 1, 2011 through September 15, 2011 in the Social Service Office by appointment only.  Proof of residency and income are required.  SSA Form 1099 and a 2010 income tax return (if applicable) must be provided.  Income limits for the State of Connecticut Program are:  Married - $39,500; Single - $32,300.

ConnPACE:  Helps eligible senior citizens and people with disabilities afford the cost of most prescription medicines.  If you are a Connecticut resident aged 65 or older, or with a disability aged 18 or older, you may qualify for ConnPACE.  Besides covering most prescriptions, ConnPACE pays for insulin and insulin syringes and needles.  Income limites are:  Singled:  $25,100; Couple:  $33,800.

The Soldiers', Sailors' and Marines' Fund:  Providing limited assistance to veterans who are residents of Connecticut, spouses living with the veteran at the time of the veteran's death, and dependent children under age 18.  For more information on program eligibility and benefits, contact the office.

Alert 9-1-1 to your Special Needs - If you or someone living in your home has a medical disability, you can advise 9-1-1 so emergency response personnel can be better prepared to assist you in an emergency.  To activate this enhanced service, you must complete a simple SBC Enhanced 9-1-1 form.  Forms are available at the Social Services office.
